Parenting is probably the most important job anyone will ever have. But in spite of the vast array of advice available – in books, online, in courses, through counselling, from friends – parents can spend a lot of time feeling helpless and frustrated.
Parenting is a very individual occupation because each child is an individual. Never-the-less, parents can be guided by experienced people to help them navigate their way through the stages of schooling.
Most parents would be aware that there are several important areas which are common to anyone bringing up children. They include:
Fitness. Plenty of outdoor play, exercise or sport.
Health. Immunisation, plenty of sleep, good nutrition, appropriate backpacks.
Communication. Connecting through talking and listening, praise, encouragement and a positive attitude.
Security. Building good family relationships and staying safe outside the family.
Emotional. Negotiating through problems that arise at school and home, behaviour issues and building social skills.
Educational. Choosing the right school and laying the foundations for an interest in on-going learning and good study habits.
Ethical. Instilling a sense of right and wrong and a standard of moral principles.
