The system of education in Australia has evolved over the past two centuries and is today ranked amongst the best in the world. However, the system is not without its challenges to maintain world class standards.
An international study of more than 400,000 15-year-olds by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2007 found Australian high school students had fallen behind in international rankings.
Thc Union says the Government needs to increase public education funding because the lack of funding had placed Australia's international education rankings at risk.
