Where’s Your Laptop?
Posted By: Matthew Hamra Posted Dt: 08 Feb 2010

New technologies bring about changes in school students and schools too. New and faster ways of operating become the norm in an interconnected super hyped touch screen kinda world.

Some schools in the last few years have made the laptop a compulsory item for its students. They are a minority currently, in the independent education sector generally. Apart from the obvious cost, it does however raise a number of issues of an educational nature.

The old excuse of the family pet eating the homework is now replaced by, “the system crashed and I couldn’t save my work.” Or forgetting to bring required books to school (now no laptop in the classroom) becomes, “IT maintence has my laptop and I don’t know when I’m getting it back.”

Excuses are still prevalent in a switched on world, students need to be switched on too as ever.
